STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Creating Lasting Relationships through assessments.

One size does not fit all, and one teaching method does not suit every lesson or student. We teachers pay close attention and develop caring relationships with our students, allowing for the adaptation of curricula to meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of everyone. Our student experience is enriched by athletics, volunteer opportunities, class trips, and other exciting extracurricular activities.

Formative Assessment.

Learning Objective: The student is expected to: (A) represent numeric data graphically, including dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, histograms, and box plots;

REFLECTION

By having my students create a stem and leave chart and present their information to the class, I was able to assess them in two different ways, traditionally and project based. Addendum: Using rubrics as part of my grading criteria, helped me identify students' needs more easily, it also provided me with the opportunity to give feed back to students. Another important aspect of rubrics is that students can use them as a guide to create their project and to self grade their work. Using rubrics as learning or for learning will help teacher and students obtain a better understanding on their journey on learning process.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT/RUBRICS

According to Susan M. Brookhart in her book "How to Create and use RUBRICS" she states that rubrics are important because they clarify for students the qualities their work should have. Rubrics help teachers teach, they help coordinate instruction and assessment, and they help students learn. Addendum: During this activity, I was able to create a formative weekly assessment. I had never done one, but I believe this one was a success. Students were able to follow one concept using different daily activities. It is like building blocks to expose students into different ways of viewing assessments. This formative assessment allowed me to give a daily grade as well as daily feedback. The process of grading was faster with a higher passing rate. I will implement formative assessments at least one every six weeks to check for students' learning process.
